After a long, full life of serving Jesus Christ, and being a faithful daughter, wife, mother and grandmother, Arizona Grace Penland went to be with her Lord, her husband and many family members on December 5, 2019, at 82 years of age.
Arizona was born to James G Jones and Grace (Drewry) Jones on July 19, 1937, the seventh of eight children, at Snowball, AR. Her family moved to Westville, OK when she was nine years old, where she would meet her future husband, Rev. James E Penland. They were married on December 25, 1955 in Watts, OK, where James was Pastor of the First Baptist Church. Two children were born of the marriage - Jimmy L Penland, born on September 18, 1956, and Tommy E Penland, born on August 31, 1957.
Arizona was a talented piano and organ player, and singer with a beautiful voice. She was also a gifted Bible teacher. Arizona faithfully ministered alongside her husband, James, for close to 50 years.
Arizona was preceded in death by her parents, James G Jones and Grace (Drewry) Jones; her husband, James E Penland; and her brothers, Garvin L Jones, James G Jones, Jr., Gerald M Jones, Paul I Jones, Billy O Jones, Doyle F Jones and George W Jones.
Arizona is survived by her children, Jimmy Penland of Collinsville, OK and Tommy Penland of Muskogee, OK; three grandchildren, Lisa Cotter, Kevin Penland and Robyn Penland, all of Fort Worth, TX; five great-grandchildren; a host of extended family members; and many dear friends she made in her lifetime.
Graveside services were held at 2:30 pm on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at Westville City Cemetery, Westville, OK with Tommy Penland officiating. Interment followed at under the direction of Roberts & Hart Funeral Home, Westville, OK.
