A much-loved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother, Chester Dale Kelley of Westville, Oklahoma passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, September 1, 2017 at age 74. He was born on February 26, 1943 in Hookerville, Oklahoma to Lillian and Lee (Trigger) Kelley.
Chester is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Maynard, Lonnie, and Roger Kelley. Chester is survived by his wife Althna (Guy), whom he married on June 17, 1968 and his siblings Patti Holtze of Ramona, Ok and Bobby Kelley of Westville, Ok.
Chester will be sadly missed by his children Vickie Hanvey and husband Skip, Nickie Boydston and husband John, Jamie Garman and husband Rod, Mark Kelley and wife Gina all of Westville, Ok as well as his 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren along with many other relatives and a host of friends.
He proudly served his country in the 25th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army during Vietnam as a Spec 4 Communications Specialist. Chester was awarded the Cherokee Medal of Patriotism and The Warrior Award in 2011. After completing his military service he lived in Long View, Washington working as a construction foreman before moving back to Oklahoma. He was a Supervisor at Franklin Electric manufacturing electric pump motors before retiring after thirty-one years. Upon retirement, Chester and Althna owned and operated the Chewey Store. He was jokingly referred to as the mayor of Chewey. He donated time, money and his carpentry skills in assisting to build the Chewey Community Building and park.
Chester accepted the Lord as his personal savior in 1980 and was a faithful servant from that point forward. He drove the van at Jaybird Church for many years where he also served as a deacon, teacher and Sunday School Superintendent. He attended Mountain View Church in Twin Oaks for the last ten years where he also served as a deacon. Chester enjoyed spending time with his kids working animals and served on the Adair County Fair Board for several years. He loved to hunt and fish but mostly he loved to spend time with his family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Victory Worship Center, West Siloam Springs, Oklahoma. Internment will be held at New Hope Cemetery in Chance, Oklahoma.
