Danny Ray Mullin departed this life on April 3, 2023, in Springdale, Arkansas surrounded by family at the age of 78. Danny was the son of Gerald and Millie Mullin. He was born on May 29, 1944, at home in Westville, Oklahoma. He was the 10th of 11 children.
Dan graduated from Trona High School in 1962 where he enjoyed playing football and running track. He attended Bakersfield College and later ran track at Fresno State College. He did not finish college due to being drafted into the Army. Dan was in the Army for 4 years and fought in the Vietnam War. He was on leave from the Army when he came to visit his family in Westville. Howard Mullin and Paul Lee Roberts set Dan and Paul Lee’s sister, Dianna, up on a blind date. Dianna then wrote to Dan for 1 year and sent him care packages while he was in the Army. Almost every dime he made in the Army he sent to the bank so he could pay cash for his pride and joy, a custom 1968 burgundy GTO. On another leave Dan returned to Westville to visit his folks and see Dianna. Dan and Dianna dated for 2 weeks, and he got a job offer in Trona, California. Dan and Dianna got married on May 19, 1968, and then moved to Trona, California for Dan’s job. Dan worked at the Credit Union for 28 years. Dan and Dianna Mullin were married for 55 years. They had 2 children, Michael Ray, and Mendi Renee. In Trona Dan was active in playing softball and coaching little league football for 15 years. He loved his community and served whenever and wherever needed, which included digging graves by hand. Danny even recruited his son and his son’s friend, Oscar, to help. Dan and Mike also installed benches and trees along the bike path from Pioneer Point to Trona and they are still there today. Later he retired to Oklahoma. In retirement he coached weightlifting, and taught Spanish at Watts School for a few years. Dan would say it may be the lowest paying job he ever had, but it was the most rewarding. Dan was known as Pa D to his grandchildren and extended family. He was a leader at Clearfork Church. He loved church and singing with his brothers. Dan will be missed by many.
