Eva Guthrie

Eva Maegene Barber Guthrie, age 88, of Chewey, OK, departed this life surrounded by family on Sunday, September 08, 2019 at Washington Regional Hospital in Fayetteville, AR.

Maegene was born January 2,1931 in Westville, OK, the daughter of Paul Thomas Barber and Bertha Mae Neale Barber. Maegene married Harold William Guthrie on December 19,1949 and made their home in the Chewey community.

She is survived by three daughters, Brenda Jones of Columbia, MO, Rowena Roberts and husband Greg of Chewey, OK, Nancy Collins and husband Lanny of Baron, OK. Six grandchildren, Cason Jones and wife Jennifer, Willie Collins, Eva Roberts Green and husband Michael, Erin Davis and husband Brian, Amber Galkiewicz and husband Michael, April Vaughn and husband Cheston. Thirteen great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, two brothers, Kenneth Barber and wife Connie, and Dwayne Barber, one sister, Rana Testerman and husband John, brother-in-law, Donvil Guthrie and wife Gloria Jo, sister-in-law, Joyce Noble, sister-in-law, Loylea Dundom and husband Mick, along with a host of extended family members and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband Harold and their infant son. Son-in-law Vernon Jones, father Paul and mother Bertha along with two sisters, Leona Scism and Ruth Hamby.

Maegene was a member of the Clearfork Community Church where she loved to worship the Lord. Her love of music was often on display as she would sing specials in church like One Day at a Time and Blessings on Me. She was a loving wife and homemaker, thoughtful mother, gracious grandmother and loyal friend. In her own words she was a "jack of all trades" who enjoyed sewing, cooking, writing letters and cards to family and friends and using her "green-thumb" to tend their garden. She worked tirelessly her entire life to provide a loving home for her family, who meant the world to her. She was known throughout the community as a wonderful cook and on many occasions would find her home full of family and friends sitting around the kitchen table enjoying a good meal and warm fellowship.

Molly, as many called her, lived a simple life full of love and happiness. She brought so much joy to all who knew her, and this world will not be the same now that she's gone. Maegene was an inspiration to many and now that her journey is finished, she moves on to her eternal home in Heaven. She will be greatly missed.

Funeral services were held at 1 pm on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at Roberts & Hart Chapel, Westville, OK with Bro.  Terry Guthrie and Bro. Danny Crittenden officiating.  Interment followed at Proctor - Sanders Cemetery, Proctor, OK.
