Gerri Morris was born October 25, 1931 in Grinnell, Iowa to Raymond and Rosale (Richardson) Gilbert. The family stayed in Iowa until 1943 when the doctor advised them that dad needed to go to a high dry climate for his health, so we decided on Colorado where most of us stayed.
When Gerri was 17, she went to California with friends. She stayed in California until late 1951 when she met Bill Guffey. They married and together they raised three wonderful sons (everybody thinks their kids are wonderful).
The family lived in several states over the years; Colorado, Wyoming, South Dakota, New Mexico, Utah, Louisiana and ended up in Stilwell, OK (where Bill was originally from). The boys all graduated from Stilwell High School and went on to live their lives.
Gerri and Bill divorced in the early 1970's and Bill died in 1976. Gerri married Kenneth Morris in the late 1970's and they moved to Little Kansas where they lived and raised cattle, goats, sheep, horses, etc. for 18 years.
They soon decided that they were getting on in years and decided to move to Watts, OK. They travelled a bit but then settled down into old age. Gerri operated Happy Hills Thrift Store in Watts, OK for over 22 years. ( Past at the age of 91).
She is survived by her sister, Ann Houghton of Cedaredge, Colorado, two sons Brad Guffey and wife Cathy of Tulsa, OK and Lonnie Guffey and wife Jane of Naples, Florida. Four stepdaughters, Judy Tucker of Claremore, Gayle Mullin and husband Jim of Westville, Joy Walker and husband Frank of Muskogee, OK, and Jan Hopper and husband Robert of Grove, OK.
Gerri and Kenneth had a combined total over 70 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two angels, Guy and Shirley who were her best friends and caretakers and by all her friends on Main St. in downtown Watts at the Tenkiller Behavioral Center.
Services will be held at Roberts & Hart Funeral Home in Westville, OK followed by burial at Old Baptist Mission Cemetery, next to her husband, Kenneth and her son, Bruce.
