Jerry's family moved to the community of Rabbit Trap in Stilwell, Oklahoma when he was around 2 years old. He went to Rabbit Trap School until they moved to Kanas City, Ks. in 1952. He attended Elementary School at Prescott Elementary. He joined the Navy in 1960 when he was 17 in which he served his Country for 4 years he was Honorably discharged in 1964. He was stationed in many different places overseas, such as Singapore and Japan.

He did not graduate from High School but that did not stop him from being very smart with money & owning many different businesses. He bought our Grandpa Virgil Pruett's store on the North end of Stillwell. Pruett's Citgo Gas station. His wife Vi & him ran the store for many years. Connected to the Station was her Beauty Salon when she closed it down Dad put in a Liquor Store. Jerry had a home built for his family behind the station which is still there. Then in the Summer of 1976 they moved to Baron, where he built his family a Log Home. Dad & Mom always had a big Garden and they would can all summer. Dad made his famous Strawberry & Elderberry Jelly every Summer. He also made a mean Chocolate Pie. He owned & operated a Gravel Pit down Addilee Road that he bought from his Uncle Leonard on which our Grandpa Pruett lived. Then around 1985 dad bought another store in the middle of town next door to Roberts Funeral Home.

Dad raced Quarter Horses most of his life. A few places he raced his horses were Tahlequah Downs, Sallisaw Blue Ribbon Down, Missouri State Fair, Midway Downs in Stroud, Ok., Blue Stem Downs in Eureka, Kansas. He was a member of the AQHA for many, many years.

Daddy used to play a mean hand of Poker. Sometimes they played at our home behind the store. Other times they would play at James & Martha Calico's house. He also played Poker at the Cherokee Casino after it opened. He also enjoyed betting on the Horse Races. He bet on them at the Casino till he no longer could sit that long. So, he would pick them out write it all down and Jerry Dale or I would go bet for him. I would just hand the paper to the young lady. Because I was afraid I would do it wrong!!!!
