Jimmy Ray Vann was born December 26, 1950 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma and was called home on February 14, 2018 in California at 67 years of age.
He lived in Chewey, OK with his parents, Lillie Peters-Vann and Jimmie Vann, along with seven siblings: Sarah Vann (deceased), Thomas Vann, Barbara Vann, Steve Vann, Henry Vann, Roy Vann and Cindy Vann.
Jimmy attended Skelly School in Chewey, Seneca Indian School, Sequoyah High School and Haskell Indian Nations University. He received his certification in Welding and Engineering.
Jimmy enlisted in the Marine Corps 2 years after attending Haskell. He served his country for 4 years. During those years, he became a Sergeant and was deployed to Okinawa, Japan and Thailand as a fuel tech. He was honorably discharged and returned to Haskell.
When Jimmy returned to Haskell, he met Katherine Walker. Jimmy and Katherine had five children; Manda Vann, Rolena Vann, Kristy Vann, Jacob Vann and John Vann. Jimmy and his family made their home in Woodfords, California.
He worked with Alpine County Public Works as a heavy equipment driver and a welder for 25 years.
While Jimmy resided in California, he raised his children and helped raise his children and helped raise his five grandchildren; Cody Vann, Miles Vann, Aidan Vann, Jaya Vann and Vernon Vann - Kilberg. He cherished his family and loved to spend time visiting and fishing.
