Lily Marie Hubbard

September 7, 1929 — May 16, 2023

Lily was born to Katie (Weaver) Hamilton and Grover Cleveland Hamilton in Clearfork. She was the youngest of eight children. She would pass from this life on May 16, 2023.

She was as hard-working as a child as she was as an adult. She and her sister had to wash their clothes at the creek on a rub board and rocks at a very young age while cooking for the family also. They would also can fruit and vegetables all summer long for the winter for their food supply.

She finally left the home to become a personal child caretaker for Dr. Jeff Baggett in Prairie Grove, Arkansas. She said it was the easiest job she ever had. Dr. Baggett appreciated a job well done and showed it by doctoring the entire family for free. Her mom, dad, sisters, brothers, and their children for years after she left.

She married Walter D. Hubbard and had a set of twins, Darrell Jay, who only lived one day, and Karol Kay. Kathleen would follow the twins. Her husband Walter was a WWII and Korean War vet and was later hospitalized when Kathleen was only two years old. So Lily spent her life raising children. She worked at the Proctor Canning Factory and got her GED and would later attend NSU.

Kathleen has taken care of all of Lily’s needs throughout her life and she never had to ask Kathleen for help. Kathleen has attended to her in health and in sickness.

Lily was very kind and never harmed anyone. She was generous and selfless and helped her family tremendously. She was a positive influence on her kids. She had a sweet smile and quiet demeanor. Lily loved animals of all kinds, especially her dog and cat.

Those who proceeded Lily in death were her husband Walter Daniel Hubbard; father and mother Grover Cleveland Hamilton and Katie (Weaver) Hamilton; son Darrell Jay Hubbard; daughter Karol Kay Walters; five brothers Ausa Hamilton, Isaac Hamilton, Lee Hamilton, Toy Lee Hamilton, and Edgar Hamilton; and two sisters Dovey Mae Woodall and Annabell Henson.

Those left behind to cherish Lily’s memory is her daughter Kathleen (Hubbard) Leatherwood and husband Rick of Proctor, Oklahoma; two step-grandchildren Christopher Lee Leatherwood of Proctor, Oklahoma and Kendra Jean Caldwell and husband Brandon of Lubbock, Texas; and two great-grandchildren Tenille Lee Leatherwood and Chrislynn Sophia Leatherwood.
