Melba Walters

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Melba Jean Walters, who left us peacefully on October 25, 2024, at the age of 87. Born on October 12, 1937, to Jeff and Verna Carter, Melba graced the lives of many with her unwavering spirit and dedication to her community.

A devoted member of the First United Methodist Church in Westville, Melba lived her faith through action, embodying the values of love and service. Her career spanned over three decades at Campbell Soup in Fayetteville, Arkansas, where she proudly dedicated 31 years of her life before retiring. She continued her journey, spending 21 years at Walmart in Fayetteville, where she touched the lives of countless customers and coworkers.

Melba's commitment to her community was perhaps most evident in her role as the Clerk of Westville, a position she held for 20 years. Her passion for progress and improvement led her to serve on numerous boards and planning committees, including the Westville School Booster Clubs and she also served on the Westville Cemetery Board, demonstrating her dedication to both the youth and the memory of the community.

For 87 years Melba was the matriarch of our family. She taught us to be independent, have a strong work ethic, and that if you want something done, do it yourself. Her true joy was spending time with her family and hosting holiday gatherings, she especially loved Christmas time. She took great pride in her seasonal yard decorations and love having the community visit to take pictures.

Melba is preceded in death by her parents; Jeff and Verna Carter, two brothers; Kenneth Dean Carter and Campbell G. Carter, and one very special friend George Langley.

Melba is survived by her daughter Regina and Husband Tim Weaver, nephew; Jason Carter and wife Veronica, niece Robin Carter and partner David Juarez, two granddaughters Randi Huebner and husband Mike, and Camilla Biswell and husband Jonathan, four great grandchildren; Ariadne, Keith, Aurelio Combs, and Know Biswell, As well a host of great nieces and nephews.

Per Melba's request we will have a private family ceremony with burial at the Westville Cemetery.   

As we remember Melba, let us cherish the warmth she brought into our lives, the laughter she shared, and the love she spread so generously. We will miss her deeply but hold her close in our hearts always.
