Oliver Putman

Oliver David Putman, son of Ollie and Ruby Eulala (Choate) Putman, was born on August 24, 1933 in Henryetta, Oklahoma and departed this life on Sunday, May 31, 2015 in Colcord, Oklahoma at the age of 81 years.

David was raised in NE Oklahoma, his father died when he was 9 years old. David�½s family was part of the many who traveled to California and TX, wherever they could find work picking cotton or fruit. It was the time and life of so many in those times that the �½Grapes of Wrath�½ movie was based on. David left home at a very young age, first working on the railroad then later he was hired on to travel with a construction crew that built grain elevators. He met Nancy Brown and they were married about 1954. The first two children were born while they traveled around the heartland from Iowa to TX building elevators and then David got hired on full time at a grain elevator in Pampa TX where the family settled and 3 more children were born. David worked his way to the superintendent position and stayed until retirement. David also helped all the ranchers and farmers in the area with anything from plowing to castrating and dehorning bulls. He was always there to help anyone he could. David was a long time member of Barrett Baptist church where he was baptized and was active in church activities. David loved music and enjoyed participating in the Lions Club musical shows each year in Pampa. David loved camping and fishing and going as often as possible with the family. David and Nancy later divorced and he married Rose Whitlock, they also later divorced. David moved back to NE Oklahoma when he retired to be close to his sister and brothers and extended family and go fishing and camping more often. He enjoyed family, getting together and playing music and singing, fishing and camping and cooking for everyone. He was the best hamburger cook ever, according to his family!

He was preceded in death by his parents: Ollie and Ruby Putman, brothers: Thomas and Clifford Putman.

A loving family survives Oliver. They include his children: Sherry Hunter and husband Ray of Kansas, OK, David Putman and wife Peggy of White Deer, TX, Ricky Dean Putman of Colcord, OK, Jeff Putman and wife Regina of Springfield, MO, Michele Carter of Colcord, OK, 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, brother: Gilbert Arnold of West Siloam Springs, OK, Delbert Arnold and wife Wanda of Colcord, sister Nadine Gatewood of Colcord, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
