Opal Matthews

January 15, 1914 — June 2, 2018

Opal Thresa Matthews, daughter of James Monroe and Lillie Viola (Turner) Dyer, was born on January 15, 1914 in Cisco, Texas and departed this life on Saturday, June 2, 2018 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma at 104 years of age.

Opal was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Westville along with husband and 3 children.

She was a homemaker and an excellent cook. She had her own restaurant in Westville. In 1955 she and her husband, "Bo" moved their family to Oklahoma City. She continued in the restaurant business until she retired.

She loved working in her flower garden, crocheting and quilt making, camping, fishing and traveling.

These last few years she enjoyed spending time spoiling her great grandchildren.

Another enjoyment she got was playing board games with friends and family. Her favorite games were marbles and Farkle.

A Loving and Devoted family is left to mourn her passing. They include her children: Billy Matthews and wife Kathleen of Westville, OK, Katie Galyean of Westville, Shirley Ketcher of Broken Arrow, OK, Bobby Matthews and wife Georgette of Westville, Verna Chappell and husband Larry of Norman, OK, one sister: Bobbie Ruth Chester of Oklahoma City, OK, grandchildren: Billy Dale Matthews and wife Rhonda of Blair, NE, David Matthews and wife Nancy of Siloam Springs, AR, Russell Galyean and wife Judy, Cheryl McDonald and husband Johnny, Bradley Galyean, all of Westville, Tammy Cooper and husband Steve of Tomball, TX, Michael Ketcher of Pittsburgh, PA, Robert Slover, Mark Slover, both of OKC, Bobby Matthews of Hollywood, CA, William Matthews and wife Ashley of Chickasaw, OK, Keith Chappell and wife Kim, Scott Chappell and wife Elizabeth of OKC.

Opal is also survived by 17 great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
