Rita Lewis

On Sunday September 25, 2022, Rita Yvonne (Oxford) Lewis passed away at the age of 73 peacefully at home from a sudden illness. Rita was born January 6, 1949, in Westville, Oklahoma to Newt and Nellie Oxford.

Rita graduated in 1967 from Westville High School in Oklahoma. Rita Yvonne married her love James in February of 1970, in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

Rita Yvonne was always a ray of sunshine. Her children and grandchildren were her everything. She loved to spend time with them. She loved to play the piano and loved to watch her some OU football on Saturday afternoons. Rita always had a special way about her, she never met a stranger, always laughing and smiling no matter what. Rita never let anything get her down even battling polio since childhood. In the 1970s Rita and James opened a bar called The Sundowner in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Rita was also licensed in business management.

Rita Yvonne is survived by her grandsons: Colby and Levi Wheeler; and granddaughter: Krystal Willis all of Kansas, Oklahoma. Many cousins, nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband: James; son: Dale Oxford; and daughter: Angie Lewis Headrick.
