Rowena Glabas

September 23, 1936 — February 5, 2019

Rowena Martin Glabas was born in Watts, OK on Sept. 23, 1936. She entered Heaven's gates on February 5, 2019. Rowena was born to the late James "Jim" Clinton and Matilda Rose Dees Martin. She married SSgt. Stanley Leo Glabas on May 17, 1962. They made their home in Westville, OK. The last several years of her life she moved to Norman, OK where she could be closer to her son, David, and daughter-in-law, Beth, and grand-daughter, McKenzie.
Rowena was a wonderful homemaker. She accomplished so much. She was a devoted wife and mother. She cooked, canned, sewed, crocheted, quilted, and gardened every summer including last year. She instilled a love for gardening vegetables with David and sewing/ crocheting with Margie. The skills taught to her children are a legacy. She loved her children and their spouses, but she took so much pride and joy in watching her grandchildren grow. Rowena also enjoyed traveling to nearby places and even enjoyed visiting the grandkids in AK. Rowena had a heart of gold! She would help anyone in need. She always made time for people. She worked for Plus Poultry, Simmons, and an in-home caregiver for the elderly. She later earned her Certified Nurse's Aide certification and was so proud of this. She then went to work for the Westville Nursing home. She loved taking care of the elderly people. Lastly, she worked for the Siloam Springs Hospital as a CNA. Rowena retired to care for her husband, Stanley, during his last years. Rowena attended Baron Baptist Church where she accepted Christ as her Savior. She had a firm belief in God. She was blessed by the friends she made there. She passed on the importance of knowing and serving Christ to her children and grandchildren.
Rowena was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Stanley Leo Glabas. She was also preceded in death by her parents, James Clinton and Matilda Rose Dees Martin and her sisters Barbara Marie Monk and Mary Lillian McIntosh. Rowena is survived by her sister and brother Dora Mae Tinsley and Loyd Martin. She is survived by her son David Chase Glabas, his wife Mary Elizabeth Jolliff Glabas, her daughter Margreat Rose Glabas Kirby and her husband Johnny Leeon Kirby. She is also survived by beloved grandchildren Kyndle Lynn Kirby, Levi David Kirby, and McKenzie Elizabeth Glabas. Rowena also leaves behind a host of loved cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Rowena will be dearly missed. We take comfort in knowing that she is with her Creator and Savior and we will see her again as long as we know the Savior too. For those that do not know, she lost her hearing a few years ago. We celebrate the fact that she can now hear!
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday February 13 at 10:00 AM at Roberts & Hart Chapel, Westville, Oklahoma with Doug Davis officiating. Rowena will be laid to rest with Stanley at Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Ft. Gibson, OK at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, February 13, 2019.
